expect 是用在不同的事物

expect for用在相同的事物比如这道题 concert和opera是一类事物.都是这个作家的作品

for接动词produced => sth. was produced for sth => Opera was produced for a concert.

102: Opera was not produced, except for a concert performance, until 1972.

可是excepting呢？

Longman的解释是‘used to introduce the only thing or person in a group about which a statement is not true
同义： except (for)
例句：O'Rourke answered all the questions excepting the last one. ’

OG的解释是‘Excepting usually appears in negative constructions’

但我觉得不是很有说服力。哪位NN能深入解释一下？

这不就是OG“Usually appears in negative constructions”的意思么。既然原句没有否定结构，当然选择Except for的选项“最合适”啦
