12. Aristotle wrote that a tyrant would be well advised to put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are more tolerant of unjust treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-rearing and pious. Moreover as most subjects believer that even the gods are on the side of the ruler, the subjects are less apt to move against him.

Which one of the following is an assumption on which Aristotle’s argument depends?

(A) The subjects of tyrannical rulers typically believe that there is a power other than the mortal.

(B) A tyrant cannot rule unless he has divine power on his side.

(C) The subjects of tyrannical rulers can rarely be fooled by appearances.

(D) Tyrants who are devoted to religion will not treat their subjects unjustly

我觉得题目的推理应该是这样的：
Subjects are more tolerant of unjust treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-rearing and pious and as most subjects believer that even the gods are on the side of the ruler, the subjects are less apt to move against him.---》a tyrant would be well advised to put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion

前面的两部分应该是后面结论的解释！
但答案A是什么意思呀？如何是个assumption呀？
看了半天都没看明白？

Only A can be right. First make sure you know all the words in the question and understand what it says.

The argument says that subjects of ruler will tolerate the ruler more if the ruler shows devotion to religion. The subjects will be less like to go against the ruler is they believe that God is on the side of the rule.

From the second sentence above, you can tell that the subjects must believe in God in the first place to make the argument hold. A simply says so.
