在这里ETS只是用两个比较来混淆视线。他要表达的意思是：诗歌的翻译好比是“小提琴能表现钢琴的声音”，以及这一现象所具有的特性；而不是“钢琴能表现小提琴的声音”。这两者恰好反向。ANY MORE THAN 其实是否定了“钢琴能表现小提琴的声音”这一层意思。从语法上讲，是NOT ANY MORE THAN；连着前面的DO NOT EXIST ACROSS LANGUAGES，即“和...一样，都不..."。
