Under high pressure and intense heat, graphite, the most stable form of pure carbon, changes into the substance commonly referred to as diamond and remaining this way whether or not the heat and pressure are removed.
答案是D,我的答案是E。
你好,我和你做的是 同一套题,请问我们这个是GWD31重复版马?为什么在讨论贴上我们的题和上面对不上?
答案选E应该没错
thus= in this way
even when 比 although 好 因为有 假设虚拟的意思在~
MGMAT的老外解释:D的this way从逻辑含义上不对。
Here is an excerpt from the new york times
"The transformation is similar to that of carbon. Under high pressure and intense heat, graphite, the most stable form of pure carbon, changes into diamond and remains diamond even when the heat and pressure are taken away."
Ron/ Stacey; I just have a quick question here:
If the part "and remains diamond even when" were to read, "and remains thus even when", will this be correct? or is ""and remains in this way although" better?
答:
"remains thus" would possibly be fine. it sounds a bit stilted and archaic, but i've certainly seen that kind of construction before.
however, it's also quite possible that the gmat will deride that sort of construction as wordy / awkward / unclear (especially "unclear"; the gmat requires a very high standard of precision in SC sentences).
so, the jury is out until we see evidence one way or the other on an official problem.
--
"in this way" would NOT be fine, because no "way" has been described. in fact, no adverb is present at all to be properly parallel to "in this way" (an adverbial construction); diamond is most certainly not a "way" of doing anything.
The answer should be E, because thus = in this/that way/manner. (webster.com)
This is another example why you should not work on GWD:the questions are difficult ,confusing, and outdated and, to make matters worse, there are no official answers!!!
There are 600+ OG & Prep SC questions. Should be enough!
Good luck.
