标题: HELP!!!!!!!!What should I do?

Thank you for your attention!

I am a student of English major in Nanjing University. My application of department is formed by my parents, so I got no choice. I love laws, however. I wish I could study laws after my graduation from university, so LSAT is a good chance for me. The problem is that I have little time to read those books about laws or logic. I have elective course like logic, but , I really could not see much relation between them.

What I am wondering is whether it really help to study English in university and, I feel it's almost impossible to have free time. We have a busy schedule in our freshman year and sophomore year, to prepare for TEM4 and then TEM8...I need to figure something out...for I have already wasted a lot of time in freshman year...Since I have never prepared for TOEFL, I want to take some courses in TOFEL...And is there any tips?

Would LSAT be too difficult for me to handle, for I got little knowledge in laws and logic.

Thank you sincerely...I am a new here...really appreciate your help

南大英语系的? 我有个老同学在那儿, 不过坦白说你的英语是够糟糕的, 除去开头结尾两句,中间错得一塌糊涂

Euphekira should receive encouragement for the courage to write her post in English. Most new posters here only write Chinese, so it is impossible to evaluate their English skills. Euphekira should not be penalized or ridiculed simply because she tried her best to use English. While not perfect, her English skills are better than those of some Chinese students in the U.S.

Euphekira:

Honestly, I think time management skills are extremely important for a JD candidate. I understand you are very busy. However, you will get busier if you get into a JD program: course work, extracurriculars, journals, interviews, internships, etc. It is better to get into the habit of managing a busy lifestyle if you really want to pursue the JD degree in the States.

My suggestions:

1. Take the TOEFL class from New Oriental.

2. Buy LSAT books and do the questions. Spend at least 3-6 months on it. If you cannot score above 160 after that, then law school in the US is probably not right for you.

3. If you do score above 160, you should think about how to finance your degree.

I felt like crying when I saw the posts posted by goodssb and XJ25. But thank you all the same. I know my English is poor. I wrote the post in 3 o'clock A.M. And I failed to check it for a second time. If I made some silly mistakes, please forgive me. I am ashamed of my carelessness and ignorance. Frankly speaking, I hate English, but I still will try to do my best . Being a English student in a top university but still cannot find the position of my life is a shame.

I wanna thank Expert123 for your encouragement and suggestion. Thank you very much!

I don't think LZ's english has any big problems - just some chinese tone and will be soon polished if living in US for a few months.

LSAT is the only 1 critical factor for you. It does not involve any elegant writing skills - what you need is to download those REAL QUESTIONS and practice and practice.

Remember that NO exams can corner a Chinese, rite?

be confident and treat LSAT as your religion

Hi Euphekira, why not applying for L.L.M which shall only take you one year and less USD? Honestly, it would be extremely hard for a Chinese citizen to apply a JD. Besides LSAT, you have to consider whether you can afford the tuition, whether you can easily find a job after graduation, whether you can endure the stressful working environment in a law firm, esp working in big firms.

According to my own experience, it is definitely not easy working for a law firm, esp you start from the very beginning.

Why don't you take a few days off to clear off your mind and start cracking TOEFL. To prepare TOEFL or any standard tests for that matter, study previous real tests. For LSAT, you can find them on the internet. LSAT has nothing to do with substantive law and regulation, accurate and timed reading is of paramount importance. Also, from what you have written, I feel you should improve your writing as well. But take your time and don't rush.

Quite agree with Jimoney.Euphekira, you should be aware of what you are striving for. Being a lawyer is simply not something that would bring you much fun. Most of the time, you have to handle stress and challenge. Good luck!

I'm preety much agree with those above. I'm also in tight schedule and get few time to prepare for the LSAT.English skill could be improved after daily practice. Let's cracking down the LSAT! Godd luck!

Thank you for all your advice given to me. I am trying to improve my English now both for LSAT and TOFEL. Clearly understanding the difficulties and obstacles I am faced, I know I have to be realistic, sophisticated and industious. Now still I cannot say I have regained confidence, but if I do not try, I am sure that luck definitely will not coming to me.

Thanks again.
