C. Locating hydrocarbons that are buried far beneath the Earth's surface, a geophysicist can use a seismic survey.
D.Buried far beneath the Earth's surface, hydrocarbons can be detected using a seismic survey.
E.Using a seismic survey, a geophysicist can locate hydrocarbons even though they are buried far beneath the Earth's surface.

ANS E.

I am arguing between D and E. NN please lead a helping hand. Thanks.

D weakens the original mean conveyed by words "even though".
However, E keeps it and correct the modifier error.

Ｄ中　using前应该有by吧？否则就像是hydrocarbons using似的,和A.B就犯一样错误了不是

D中的using用法明显错误，在此状语，逻辑主语只能是主句主语，但hy明显不能做using的主语。
