Ding!!!!!!!!!!!
What about the application for the PHD in accounting?
ACCOUNTING I THINK ALSO WILL BE A LOT MATH. HOW ABOUT ENTREPRENUESHIP??

for finance (financial economics) guys, you won't be taught calculus, linear algebra. instead, those would be reviewed in one or two weeks time before your first sememster starts, which is called 'math camp' by some universities. on top of that, nasty courses including real analysis(metric space, basic topological space, measure theory and integration theory), will be taught parallel to some microeconomic courses (at MWG level). For asset pricing guys, you need measure and integration theory, then probability theory, then stochastic analysis.
Accounting depends on which concentration. Economics requires high levels of math but behavioral science requires less.
Entrepreneurship. Different universities have different requirements for math since entrepreneurship can focus on strategy or OB.
Thanks so much to SM1.
And there is another question about PHD in accounting, since you are so familiar with this issue.
I want to apply for HD in accounting, although I graduated from an ordinary university with the bachelor degree majoring in international accounting and without any papers published, I want to become a professor which is my idea, so I should try my best for the idea, but which concentration is better for me since I have no strong math background? and what level universities should I select to apply? BTW, there are some highlights during the five years' work experience which may be one advantage for me, and now I work as a team leader in a 500-fortune company.
Thanks again.
Ding!!!!!!!!!!
so what about the math requirements for empirical research?
You can choose accounting phd program that has a behavioral track, such as Drexel (Ha! advertising time). If you choose behavioral track, normally ANOVA and other simple statistical skills are needed. Accounting professors like to do experiments. However, there are some core courses you must take in year one, such as economics and statistics. So calculus is still compulsory although calculus is useless for your further research.
Accounting Review is a top tier journal for behavioral track accounting. You can read some papers to understand the needs of accounting research. In addition, you can see which universities those professors are now. This information may help you target universities. Of course, the assumption is that those universities have behavioral track in accounting.
sm1, are you currently doing a PHD now??? since you are so famililar with the contents of the PHD programs, if you are, can you write a posting on the life of a phd student in the US? because i am considering pursure the PHD after complete my MBA.
thanks
This is a good answer to 'what is PhD life like'.
