"twin supernovas" are two supernovas. The sentence compares the time when two suprernovas is discovered. Thus," more recently is better" than "most recently" when compare two terms.

xiang_y可不可以帮我解释一下句子的意思。

在我看来用more recently是合理的，但是整句句子的意思是什么呢？我本来理解它是想说最近发现的这颗在体积上/质量上是大的一颗，但是却是两颗中的“弟弟”。所以这个理论才改变了astronomists的看法。因而我认为或许用the more recently discovered is the larger, but it is the small one更好些。后面的这个small是用来定义的，不是用来作比较的。

为什么要the smaller one, 而不是 the smaller

我觉得原因在于后面的那个that，而且前人也说了，the smaller one不在于比较而在于限定的作用。

at the first glance, I eliminate d and e, since "the more recently discovered" is not proper used.

then I eliminate b, the one is redundant

between a and c, I prefer a, becuasue "the one "followed by "that " 是宾语从句；而c中the smaller that 很别扭，that不知道指代什么

When there is a comparison between two things we use : bigger, smaller or taller instead of biggest, smallest or tallest. A,B and C go out.

D is bad contruction.

请教大家，正确选项e)中one可以指代复数supernovas？还是加了限定词the small + one就可以特指？
