72. The number of undergraduate degrees in engineering awarded by colleges and universities in the United States increased by more than twice from 1978 to 1985.

(C) more than doubled

(D) was more than doubled

had more than doubled

这题的答案选C

但是我记得有一题选的是TWICE

什么时候选double 什么时候选twice 呢？

请赐教～～

double是动词,用double 比two times 简洁.

increase by two times有歧义，到底是原来的两倍还是三倍呢？ETS正确答案好像避免使用这种讲法的。

twice后面一般用twice as many as或者twice as much as

而且，double可以直接用主动表示，除非有明显的意思说明是被别人给double了，曾经看过一道题用 be doubled，但是很少见，主动较多

这里的double是动词，more than是副词，用来修饰double的

double 可以做形容词，名词，前置限定词，以及动词（Vi & Vt)

Twice 是副词

S+V+twice as...as...一般都这么用，不用double来修饰的

而 S+V+O,twice the number.../double the figure...都可以用

曾经有一贴写道：

一般名词词组结构为：限定词+前置定语+名词+后置定语。前置定语和后置定语常常为形容词或定语从句诸如此类，不必深究，前置定语和后置定语可有可无，而限定词一般需要有。限定词又分三类：前位限定词，中位限定词，后位限定词。这些分类也不必太深究，但至少需要记得double, twice等表示倍数的属于前位限定词，而至于经常见到的the, those等冠词则属于中位限定词。当名词需要两类限定词修饰时（如OG此题中），那么原则是前位限定词必须位于中位限定词之前。如double the figure for 1977.
