答案是D

我选择的是E。我的问题是E项rooted过去分词表被动直接修饰work不可以吗？难道不比D项用that从句更简洁吗？

我也选d,错了。后来我想问题可能不是出在修饰是用短语还是从句上，而是both.这里用both好像是多余的，而且即使用更明确的表达应该是rooted in the ...tradition of both W and D...

E:both..and..用平行结构(both in...and in..)

Jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk 中间有逗号，前面的部分是同位语；无逗号表修饰。
