seldom...状语，修饰什么呢？

如果LZ认为是与but it ran...并列修饰the Erie Canal，那并列恐怕是错误的：adj.短语与句子。

BUT 在这里是转折,只有前面是一个句子,然后", BUT..."的情况下 ,BUT才一定是跟一个句子.but 前的逗号不可以省略.

A选项but it ran 363 miles across the rugged wilderness of upstate New York, 其中IT没有指代,如果往后指代往往指代不清,不是优选.并且,因为BUT句子的插入,使得the Erie Canal  不方便做Seldom more than 40 feet wide and 12 feet deep的主语,造成阅读障碍.

此外,表示两个否定应该用OR,表示即不比40 WIDE 也不比12 DEEP,而不是A选项中的 AND

CDE很到排除，A中，IT显然没有指代的主语，b中BUT只是表示转折的意思，没有什么错误...
