I think the subject is "the coyote", it refers to the coyote.

答案是这样的但是The coyote is one of several recent ecological success stories: 后面是冒号那不是说明一个句子已经结束了么

我觉得从句意上说it指代the coyote。冒号不代表一个句子结束了吧

我觉选E还有就是应该用ability,因为后面的has的主语应该是个名词
