偶也是这样理解的，所有格上的名词不能被指代。

第一个that指代mice，第二个指代canaries。偶只记住一个原则，定语修饰成分只修饰紧邻的名词，除非有插入语或in year 2000类似的状语。
when引导的时间状语从句，可省略与主句相同的主语，在D中，按照语法规则省略了主语production，是不符合逻辑的，应该是mice were placed。

我同意你这种意见。when本来就翻译成为当....的时候，是表示处于某种状态或事情发生的时间.....我的理解...

还是要再多问一句闹闹：

那么that定语从句不能跳跃修饰了？在n1 in n2 that中，是跟n1 of n2 that一样二者都可以修饰，还是只能修饰n2？
如果是现在分词doing呢？跟定语从句有没有不同？
