prep31. A recent review of pay scales indicates that CEO’s now earn an average of 419 times more pay than blue-collar workers, compared to a ratio of 42 times in 1980.
A: compared to比较对象不对等
B: a ratio that compares的compare不能用主动方式表达,应该是被比较
C: correct
A,compare to的前后不匹配,CEO和a ratio
B is the best,a ratio that ...
be compared to 被比作
compare A with B 将AB做比较
compare A to B 将A比作B
compare with 比得上
compare...with...
compare...to...
Let's compare this article with that one.
The heart is often compared to a pump.
Compared with/to western countries,China uses materials very carefully.
In the 16-19 age group,32% of women smoke,compared to/with 28% of men.
1、 B中的ratio无法与后面的42 times进行合理的比较(ratio应该是 ** times the pay而不只是** times); 2、C中的 419 times the pay与42 times their pay比较,the ratio… Industrialization was well advanced in both countries by 1920: over 33 percent of American workers were employed in various industries, as compared to 44 percent of Swiss workers.(GWD-4-5~7) 如果LZ觉得B好,那么C哪里不妥?
as compared to 的逻辑主语应该是CEO吧?
42 times their pay
另外,同意wei_wangyan:
1、 B中的ratio无法与后面的42 times进行合理的比较(ratio应该是 ** times the pay而不只是** times);
I compare something with/to something", 也可以说" Something is compared with/to something"
Something compares with/to something" 表示的是不同的意思
Xiali cannot compare with Benz."
as compared to 的逻辑主语应该是CEO吧?

419 times the pay of the blue-collar works,
所以,
42 times their pay
42 times 确实可以省略中心词,但是在英语环境下,这里如果省略,意思上省略的不是the pay,而是of it( the ratio),
另外,同意wei_wangyan:

相同的例子可以参见GWD-26-20:具体的"less than two and a half hours a week"不可以和概括性的"a figure"做比较。 GWD-26-20 In 1981 children in the A). B). C). D). E).
chores; by 1997 they had spent nearly six hours a week
chores; by 1997 that figure had grown to nearly six hours a week
chores, whereas nearly six hours a week were spent in 1997
chores, compared with a figure of nearly six hours a week in 1997
chores, that figure growing to nearly six hours a week in 1997
GWD-26-20

297. Fifty-two percent of United States high school graduates go on to college, compared with

(D) The percentage of high school graduates in the United States who go on to college is fifty-two, compared with Canada’s thirty-five percent, Great Britain’s fifteen, Japan’s fifteen, and West Germany’s fifteen.

(B) that, on average, CEO's now earn 419 times
the pay of blue-collar
workers, a ratio
