Q30:

Under high pressure and intense heat, graphite, the most stable form of pure carbon, changes into the substance commonly referred to as diamond and remaining this way whether or not the heat and pressure are removed.

  1. remaining this way whether or not
  2. remaining like that even as
  3. remaining as such whether or not
  4. remains in this way although
  5. remains thus even when

答案是D,可是E怎么错了呢?

when在GMAT中很少表示如果,应该是even if更好

我认为thus这样用有点怪。Longman上是如下解释thus的。会有可能是第二种用法么?

thus

formal
1 [sentence adverb]

as a result of something that you have just mentioned
:
Most of the evidence was destroyed in the fire. Thus it would be almost impossible to prove him guilty.
! In spoken English it is more usual to use

so
.
2

in this manner or way
:
They diluted the drug, thus reducing its effectiveness.
3
            thus far

until now
:
Her political career thus far had remained unblemished.

seems thus is ok, but when is problematic
