标题: Should I retake Gmat?
I took Gmat last year and got 740, but really thought I could do better. this year I applied 5 schools in 2 and 3 rounds but have no offer! I'm thinking about take Gmat again, but some people told me 740 is good enough and retaking could have even "negative effect", really? If I take it again, my target will be about 780, sincerely seek any suggestion.

没offer决不是740造成的。

如果其他条件不变，考780、790可能结果都是一样的。

把再考的精力放在其他条件的提升上才是聪明人。

考这么高还申请失败啊？能不能说说你申请的背景和学校是什么啊，应该是N校吧竞争太激烈

I'm in the states. I'm a phd. in science. I'm very busy in working, really can not have time to do essays. I applied pretty late, for second and third rounds. those may be the reasons... I don't know. and my reommendations were delayed by a professor, just arrive to the schools in March...

who knows.... not happy in these days.... I did apply some good schools, but also some average schools, like boston, vanderbilt....

now i think gmat is really not that important..... I also published a lot of papers, i don't think the adcoms will even look at the papers...

so academics is just a part, even not the most important part.

phd+gmat740....... any working experience?
I don't know why Vandy reject you. Maybe you are over qualified, since they even take unders.

i don't think i am overqualified anyway.

I have 4 years working experience.

i did put enough time on essays, only 2 or 3 hours maybe. another reason is my under's GPA is quite low.

I think your GMAT score is high enough. It is better to save your time on essays. What kind of working experience do you have? Academia (Postdoc.?) or Industry? If in Industry, you should try to get business related duties.

重考如果考不到790，800意义不是很大

没offer的原因一定是其他的，比如工作经验

同意。问题绝对不是出在分数上，所以在这个方向上努力也是徒劳。

LZ如果把二战的精力和时间用在ESSAY上，肯定会有好消息的。

我觉得楼主考GMAT还不如参加点non-profit的活动,写简历的时候也多点东西.

或者去拿个certificate什么,比如CMA,CFA一级什么,展现自己多方面的兴趣和为

MBA做准备.PHD给人的印象太学术了,而且GMAT已经740,考的更高只回更让学校把

你当作整天实验室里埋头苦干的人.

probably I am not going to take gmat again. If MBA can not be worked out, I will think about other ways.
