I was interviewed last year.
No technical questions. You will have a short chat with the program director, talking about some general questions.
For example, why study MAF, why smu, what is your current work, do you have enough time for studying, what's your future plan, and etc.
Suggestions: be very familiar with your resume, prepared to answer any questions from your resume, and prepare 3-5 questions to ask at the end of the interview (you may have time to cover 2 or 3 of them).
question for eetofin, have you taken that program, if you did, how is your evaluation on that, cheers!

NTU or NUS?
To pemerson:
I was admitted into SMU MAF but didnot take it. I chose MFE instead.
MAF and MFE are for different career paths, as I mentioned before.

Many thanks to eetofin...

To zonquan,
The part-time 2-years study is not a big issue, and it does not mean that you cannot find a finance job until 2 years later. In some aspects, it has advantages compared to full-time 1 year study.
I started my MFE study at NUS from last August, and I had not worked in the financial industry at that time.
In this Feb., I started finding a finance job and interviewed with 3 IBs (2 global leading and 1 regional leading). I got an offer in this month. I need to continue my MFE study for at least one more year. Some of my classmates even found a finance job in last semester, which is their first semester of part-time MFE study.
Yes, part-time study is more intensive when you need to work full-time at the same time, but on the other hand, you may master what you learn in classes better by using them in your daily work.
As for the CFA, I doubt its usefulness for landing a job in the financial industry. Nowadays, too many people take CFA and its value has been decreasing rapidly in the past few years. I know more than 3 people who have passed CFA level 2 but have not found a job. From what I have seen, MFE is more useful than CFA to jump into the financial industry. One reason may be the relatively small number of MFE graduates. Every year, less than 100 MFE graduate from NTU and NUS, while I guess there are hundreds of people who take CFA exams each year.
To tweety0930
No interview for NUS MFE. The application deadline is March 15 and the results come out in May.

To tweety0930,
NUS MFE classes start at 7pm, and NTU MFE and SMU MAF classes start at 6:30pm if I'm correct.
You can tell your boss that you are taking MFE/MAF courses, and if he/she is a nice person, he/she will let you leave earlier when you have class to attend. If you are working in a financial institution, probably your boss will approve that.
To zonquan,
My understanding is that most of SMU MAF courses are designed for taking CFA exams and thus holding this Master degree is much similar to passing CFA exams.
NTU的课程:
Financial Mathematics & Statistics
Finance
Computing
Note:
1. (E) denotes elective courses. All others are core courses.
2. Electives and courses at CMU are subjected to changes.
NUS的课程:
4-credit compulsory modules
4-credit elective modules
SMU的课程:
Term 1
Financial Statement Analysis 1
Financial Statement Analysis 2
Economic Analysis
Quantitative Methods and Statistics
Corporate Finance
Fixed Income Analysis
Derivatives Analysis
Equity Analysis and Portfolio Management
Term 2
Financial Statement Analysis 3
Advanced Quantitative and Economic Analysis
Advanced Equity Analysis
Advanced Fixed Income Analysis
Advanced Derivatives Analysis
Advanced Portfolio Management
Term 3
Electives:
Bank Risk Management
Advanced Corporate Finance
Corporate Risk Management
Corporate Strategy & Financial Performance
Financial Risk Management
Hedge Fund Management
Investment Advisory Service & Wealth Management
Private Equity and Venture Capital Investing
Structured Products

to zonquan,
To zonquan,
Donot just look at those course titles. The courses with similar titles may have very different contents.
Generallly speaking, NTU and NUS courses are very similar, and they are different from SMU courses. The main difference is the level of math involved in courses. For example, all 3 univ.s teach fixed income, derivatives, and financial risk management. But NTU and NUS MFE teach more technical issues, more math is used, and some math models will be analyzed so that you can have a deeper understanding of them. Basically, MFE is quantitative and MAF is qualitative.
Another thing: For each course, NUS MFE has 12 classes, NTU MFE has 6 or 7 classes, and SMU MAF has 5 or 6 classes. After some simple calculations, you will find that their total teaching hours are quite close though the numbers of courses differ dramatically.
Anybody know where the graduates go for MAF in SMU? How much is the pay for those switching from other background (Engineering with 7 yrs)?”
