Thanks Kellogg_MBA. Could you first introduce yourself a little bit to your audience?
chipmunk,

Thanks for your welcome.

I graduated from Kellogg last year and returned to China. It's very interesting to see many people here talking about many different things about b-school. I think I should be offer some insider's perspctive.
kellogg_MBA, could you give us some insights about the graduate employment outlook? thx
Same question as sbbi. I guess most of the fresh MBA prespective students here have concern about the job climate for Chinese graduates in Kellogg.
The Chinese are doing pretty well. All class of 2002 and 2003 have landed good jobs, mostly consulting and banking. For example, Kellogg is already the largest representation at McKinsey's Greater China offices.
Could you talk about the average sarlary for the new graduates? thx
I don't have the average, but since most of people go to consulting and i-banking, it should be around $80K-$90k. It's no difference for people working in China since those firms are global pay

thanks kellogg_MBA brother. So you mean most of the Chinese students came back to China this year? thanks.

thanks.
But can Kellogg MBA all find job in MC and IB? Or just few can. If so, it is not a representitive.

Kellogg_MBA, would you give some advice on kellogg interview? Thanks a lot!

I don't think Kellogg will take undergraduate, especially international student. I would suggest you work for a few years then consider MBA.

There are some master's degree programs in Northwestern that takes undergraduate, and they can also take Kellogg MBA courses. I have someone pursuing a marketing master's degree in my marketing class. So, that might be one way to go
Thanks, kellogg_MBA, for all the info you shared with us.
However, the thing I cared most is how to get into the kellogg?  Especially how to prepare the essays and recommendations, how to deal with the application process?
Ok, Let me answer the question one by one:

Q: So you mean most of the Chinese students came back to China this year? thanks.
Yes, for my class and class of 2003, there are more people from Mainland who return to China than to stay in US. But for those who are already in US, most of them stay in the US.

Q: But can Kellogg MBA all find job in MC and IB? Or just few can. If so, it is not a representitive.

A: In my class, for those from Mainland, we have 1 in Goldman, 1 in  Citigroup i-banking, 1 in CICC, 2 in Bain, 1 in AT Kearney, 2 in marketing positions in US, and 1 in privat equity in US. So, most of people do go to IB and MC. In class of 2003, McKinsey Greater China (BJ?SH/Taipei/HK) alone took about 8 MBAs from Kellogg, including their sponsored student.

Q: Kellogg_MBA, would you give some advice on kellogg interview? Thanks a lot!

It's hard to generalize interview, but I will try to give my take as I will be interviewing candidate this year. What I am looking for is whether you have a clear goal and you know how to reach your goal and you know where Kellogg MBA can fit in the process. I also look at whether you have demonstrated the quality to achieve your goal. Your career progress to date, your leadership experience, your maturity, etc. Don't be panic, just be familar with your application and really know why we have to take you!

Q: However, the thing I cared most is how to get into the kellogg?  Especially how to prepare the essays and recommendations, how to deal with the application process?

It's too board. But if you believe you know your goal and know how to achieve it and you believe you can make it and you know where a Kellogg MBA can help you, then all you need to do is to present yourself honestly and professionally. To me, most Chinese applicants lack is confidence. So, just be yourself.

Since b-school application is very personal and not all issues are appropriate talking in public, so you may contact me or other Kellogg people at this email address: kellogg_china_reception[在] yahoo.com.  I will also continue to take your questions here.

Good luck

HOW IS THE mba/MMM program in kellogg? Is it better or worse than the normal MBA programm.
If you are interested in manufacuturing, the MBA/MMM will be the best choice you will never meet again. I had been in the manufacturing for five years, and I fully understand that the manufacturing is the core competence for China now, but it is in a lower level than the States and EU. To improve the standard of manufacturing is very important for China to develop further. I am from the EU, and I also lived in China for many years. I am surely aware of the difference. Hope you enjoy your applicatioin process. I know it is panic, but is rewarding for your life.

rotem, thanks for sharing the information with us.

Hi Kellogg_Mba,

Thanks for taking questions here. I am a keen Kellogg aspirant and have two questions.

1. Can you tell us the average age of entering Chinese Mainland Kellogg MBA candidates?
2. How many of them have a marketing background? Which companies are they from? and which companies have they joined after Kellogg?

Thanks again.

kellogg_MBA, could you talk about the application situation for those chinese already in USA, from previous years' experience? thx
I am not from Kellogg, but I have a lot of friends from Kellogg. I don't think age and backgroud are important to get admission. They are really diversified. My friends were from manufacuturing, consulting, auditing, public relation, marketing, venture capital, startup etc. The most important thing during your application is that you shall feel that you fit with Kellogg. It is like dating. If you both match well, it certainly has a good result, if not, it will be a tragedy, even though occasionally you got admission. )I suggest that when you search for your ideal schools, you cherish it as searching for a person you can get married to, so you will have to find one which match you well, everything about school, e.g. curriculum, life style, environment etc. It is a bet for your rest of your life, you shall be very serious on it. Are you going to marry a beautiful girl or handsome boy with a very bad temper? If not, I trust you understand the true value of marriage. The same as application for b-school. The above is my personal viewpoint, but I sincerely it will refresh something to you. Good luck on your application!

About GMAT
Hi, kellogg_MBA,

I took GMAT and got a 680 (M50, V31), do you think I should re-take or just focus on other parts of my kellogg application?  Besides, what do you think of the importance of TOEFL score in the whole application? What is the average GMAT and TOEFL for successful Chinese applicants?

Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you.

You'd bettere get 700 or above if your other parts are not so strong, but you are strong enough, 680 is pretty good one. TOFEL is not a big deal as we will interview everyone, so even you have a high TOEFL score, if you are not doing well in interviews, you may not get in either. As for the average scores, I think you can check out CPN's surveys.

Hope this helps.

Hey kellogg_MBA,

Given equal w/e and test scores, will someone graduated from a normal college be significantly less competitive than a guy from a top tier(Tsing Hua/Beida/Fudan...) school?

How much percent of kellogg chinese students are from those top tier colleges?

Thanks

[glow=255,red,2]谢谢[/glow]

No. Your work experience and interview results counts more, though we do have more people from Tsinghua, Peking U, Fudan, Jiaotong than other universities. However, if you are not from a top tier univeristy in China and your work experience is so so and nothing special abou you, then you might have problem convincing the admissions that you will succeed.

Hi,Cannot access www.kellogg.northwestern.edu. What is wrong? thanks.
You graduated from the school and return to china, May I ask why? What kind of position you are having right now? Have you ever had any working experience in US?
Sorry I am being really blunt here. I would understand it if you do not want to answer the questions.

Kellogg_MBA,
How do you compare Kellogg with Chicago? I am thinking about applying one of them but haven't decided which one to go. I heard that Chicago is very famous for its finance, but know a little about Kellogg.
