301.    Following the nutrition board’s advice on salt consumption would mean a virtual end of the use of salt in cooking, an avoidance of obviously salty foods, and reducing the reliance on processed foods that contain significant amounts of often hidden sodium.
(A) reducing the reliance on processed foods that contain significant amounts of often hidden sodium
(B) reducing the reliance on processed foods containing often hidden but significant amounts of sodium
(C) a reduction of the reliance on processed foods, containing as they do often hidden sodium in significant amounts

答案E，同意。
但E中significant but often hidden显然都是在修饰amounts，但问题是amounts怎么能被hidden呢？ETS是不是晕了头？
如果说sodium被hidden还勉强能说得过去。

我的理解是这里的hidden表示的意思是“表面上看不见的”意思
原文的意思是可观的却看不太出来的amount of sodium

想来这大概就是“高处不胜寒”？ 唉，谁叫牛人提的问题总是 难度系数大於3.2-----beyond my ability 呢？

不过这题是否可看成2个词都是修饰(amounts of)sodium呢。

回答得哆里哆嗦的。一下子想起<红楼梦>里王熙凤的一句大俗话，搬过来用在我这里是：”就我这烧糊了的卷子在这儿混一回吧“。

一是从逻辑上significant不可能去修饰sodium
二是significant but often hidden不应该跳过amounts去修饰sodium

我觉得这里significant和 hidden都是用来修饰amounts。 hidden在这里应该是做adj用，就象我们说vast amound of...

括号里面的解释还是说salt被HIDDEN。
amounts本来就不能被看见，不用hidden就看不见。
对于仪器来说，又hidden不了啊。
但作者的意思我明白，只是觉得他的表达有问题。

我觉得这个语法很多的时候是不是不要很认真的去抠到底正确的表达，很多时候是不是要
加上句意的理解。太过于去计较是不是只见树木不见森林：）

这个我觉得实际上从句意来理解作者要表达的意思是processed foods 中所含的
amounts of sodium实际上是非常大的，但是却是不能被人们所认识到的，也就是
hidden，所以是不是可以理解为一种强调，因为作者所要表达的就是强调出来的就是这种
未被认识的很大数量的sodium，所以表达成
contain significant but often hidden amounts of sodium
而不是contain amounts of significant but often hidden sodium。

My answer:
In the USA, the amount of salt, such as sodium chloride, must be labelled in the bag, however, other elements also contribute to the amount of salt, but these elements are not labelled with Sodium Chloride. Therefore, there are some hidden amounts of sodium.

agreed with john. Another example is that a while back food industry did not put saturation fat, which is in fact "fat", in the label of their products. As a result of this, people were not aware of the hidden amount of fat in the food they were buying.

我理了下D选项的逻辑，reliance on the significant amounts of hidden sodium感觉并没有什么不对啊

观察前面的平行对象：a virtual end of the use of salt in cooking - a reduced reliance on the significant amounts of hidden sodium often contained in processed foods感觉对称效果很好

如果根据D,a reduced reliance on the significant amounts of hidden sodium often contained in processed foods，就是reliance on sodium，显然不对。而E是reliance on foods，that修饰foods,符合事实
