Hi, all INSEAD admits,
May i call a topic here for us to discuss how to finance our study and how to get familiar with INSEAD campus life in F and S?
At the end, I dont think many people can pay cash without asking for loans here. Also, what about the scholarship? Do we have to apply?(My gut feelings says yes...)
Inputs please!
We need to apply for Scholarship. Might be easy for Chinese, but i'm holding other passport, sigh.
We can try to get loan from HSBC, but i was told that for Chinese it is (virtually, kind of) impossible.
Search the forum. i had a thread talking about this topic.
I can pay in full cash, but don't know whether it becomes a convincing factor for INSEAD admission. If I get in, I will be eligible to apply Alcatel Scholarship.
Just kidding
nnm, you're not Chinese? or you're Chinese with other country's passport?
You have any idea how to apply for scholarships and loans?

I am Chinese, holding other country's passport.
I myself still working on the money issue
May have to pay by savings and family support.
so far, i have no idea about financial aid yet, just running to catch up r2 of Jan. 08
BTW, what is Alcatel Scholarship? and its requirement?
Hmm. I just got a list of scholarships INSEAD has, but I dont think there are many chances for Chinese to get anything...
I have to sell my apartment then, sigh...

Chances for Chinese students to get some scholarship are very high, the amount is as high as 10K Euro
I have to sell my apartment then, sigh...
I did so years ago, though not for MBA.
hahaha. nnm, you're funny.
So do we have to apply for scholarships? or they just allocate some types of Scholarship randomly?
Please advise, thanks.

Nothing random, mate.
You have to apply for anything you want.

I agree with you on that ... nnm is funny... haha.
As to scholarship, if you have not taken any action yet, you'd better request user-id and password asap to get access to the online application system. There are bunch of essays to be prepared for various scholarships, e.g. the very popular Alcatel one.
You work for HW which is the main competitor of Alcatel.
scholarships from Alcatel?
Damn it. Then I do have to speed up...
Thank you, nnm. Are you in China now?
Hmmm. I just logged in the INSEAD online community system. Looks very good!
nnm, it seems the grand opening night for 08 Jul intake would be May 12... Really early! Can you make it in Fontainebleau?
No, I'm not in China.
also it would be hard for me to be in Singapore before mid Aug.
Dear all, sorry that I show up late! I'm admitted by INSEAD also, for the 2008J, beginning at Fontainebleau campus.
There are simply to many things to prepare and too many errands to run. I found the 3 of the 4 pre-reading materials on www.china-pub.com, which are only 10% of the price provided by the school. And what about the Visa? Loan? Did you guy begin house-hunting? I guess that schorarships is the utmost things on our to-do list at this moment!
Talk to you all soon!

Amazing! How did you get the admission for 2008J at this time knowing the application deadline for R1 is Mar 28?
Did you defer your admission? If so, I would appreciate your sharing the experience of defering admission with INSEAD, that is pretty interesting to me also. Thanks in advance.

I see, thanks, nnm, you are so smart! ^_^

I haven't found any e-copy of the reading materials, if any, please let me know!
But I also searched their bookstore foot-note.net, and find out their book for classes, and I have e-copy of some of the books (not the version they are using nowadays, 1 or 2 version older), I could email you if needed.

Yes, like nnm said, I'm in for the July class. I'd like to share my learning for application, just give me few more days to write something - I'm pretty occupied these days.
Cheetah, I think you're doing well. No worry lah.
Tell us what specific application experience you are looking for? Since you are almost done with your essays,I assume you want to know something about interview?
Thanks a billion first! Will u choose insead or US one?
Cute guy,I really need some coach on interview.I screwed the Tuck and Darden one
I don't want to spoil an INSEAD interview if luckily there is.
I am making final polishment for my essays.Hope things go smoothly.
Ok, in this case, I may share with you my interview experience with INSEAD.
My interviewer is a CFO from a well-known MNC. What is good of INSEAD is that the interviewer's name and his/her company name come with its interview notification, which means you may have a chance to know something about your interviewer and do some pre-work accordingly. It is funny that one of my friends happened to know my interviewer. He said my interviewer is...guess what? "a white asshole"... Faint
Anyway, the interview was conducted in a noisy starbucks in Pu dong area. The interviewer is sort of rigid and cold at the beginning. Follows the questions he asked (maybe not all):
The whole interview finished within 80 mins. The interviewer did give me some good signal at the end. He said "you've done a good job. Tell your parents to stay happy for you!"
In summary, my personal experience to share with you is:
Hmmm...That's pretty much all I can share for now. Go Go Go, OleOleOle!
One of the most informative posts I read about insead interview. BTW,did you only conduct one interview? Normally there are two.
I will practise my oral English day by day

I hope not to let you down Try my best...
I need your more coach on interview if there is.
Submitted last night for INSEAD Jan 2008 intake.
Keep on my efforts!
nnm & sh: thanks a million! hope to meet u two guys at Fonty.
Inseadsh, that is really an insightful essay about your interview experience!
As for me, although the interview only happened 5 weeks ago, it's like a century ago now and I could hardly remember all the details. :-) I only had one interview too, which kind of made me nervous early March.
I did want to make my interview an "informal chat" rather than a "formal interview", since that would make me easier to express the "real me" and mitigate the potential nerves. And actually, my interviewer is a very easy-going young European lady, with consulting and entrepreneur experience on the belt and living in Shanghai nowadays.
Almost all the questions were the standardized one -- Strength & Weakness; Long-term career goal; Why INSEAD; Most Important Accomplishments; Biggest Challenges in professional life; Hobbies etc. Since I updated her the highlights of my current professional/personal life in previous emails, we began the conversation with some small talks, which made the atmosphere very pleasant! We just let the conversation flow -- she was led by her curiosity to unfold my stories and my motivations/characters behind that; I tried to make my previous stories and takeaways interrelated with my current professional development, or echoed with my career ambitions and personalities. And our conversation was a great one which lasted for more than 100 minutes...
I kept asking myself in terms of what should I accomplish through the interview before and through the process. Here's the three things I summarized -- show a highly motivated, easy-going, open-minded personality; prove yourself as a charismatic leader with a lot of team skills; tell your accomplishments and international experiences.
And how to prepare the interview and create a pleasant atmosphere? Here's also my thinking... (I think interview is critical, not only enable you to get into the Bschool, but also to find you a decent job after school)
My delivering the application PDF form was a very frustrated one. I couldn't upload the form one hour before the deadline (shame on me, always a last minute dasher) and then I threw several letters to the IT supporter and sent the adcom my file through email attachment, and everything. Of course, nobody replied me then, since that was the mid-night of Friday, Fonty time. I was really mad at myself and thought that I had to pay my bills to my laziness again. And the next Tue or Wed, IT people replied finally and asked me to pay my application fees and so on... I'm really grateful that I was saved by the IT supporter and finally got a ticket to INSEAD!
And good luck to you all! :-)
The PDF system reminded me I have filled 75 of 77 required fields. But when I submitted, it didn't jump to those blank fields and proceeded as well... I didn't know what to do with the last two fields
Let it be...
When will you get a notification mail that all you materials are complete after submission?
Just leave it as it is.
Kind regards,
The MBA Admissions Team
INSEAD
MBA Programme"
The guy who answred my phone yesterday was even more interesting. He accidentally revealed that until now they've received 300+ pakcages to be opened in the following week. Bear in mind, these should include both R4 Sep 2007 & R1 Jan 2008. Of course we can also assume that R4 is only a handful and more of R1 will probably arrive slightly late since most applicants like to drag until the deadline. For those who've also applied US schools, R1 Jan 2008 is not a good time. R2 Jan 2008 might see more. Nevertheless, it gives us some rough idea of the non-disclosed seclectivity of INSEAD. Not sure whether it has to do with its ever-increasing tuition fee
Thank stringscn lady for the experience sharing.
There are many nice posts from new INSEADers recently which definitely help other on-going and later applicants. Isn't it something that make INSEAD unique and preferable to other equally famous B-schools?
Submitted last night for INSEAD Jan 2008 intake.
Keep on my efforts!
Your commitment to top MBA is respectable, wish you good luck with INSEAD.
A little shamed on myself, no offer at all till now
This drives me moving fast.
hehe, all the efforts will be paid off sooner or later!
I do believe that every applicant has his/her logics behind the schools he/she chooses, and compare the pros and cons of the schools from time to time. But interestingly, the final decision is made on impluse, from time to time, or purely based on some subtle emotional feelings, such as the warmth/responsive/coolness of the alumni, the interaction with the schools, etc, esp. when there are comparable offers on hands.
I perfer INSEAD because it's an one-year program since I've been working for quite a while and get lots of on-the-job trainings; because it's in Europe, more business opportunities and intriguing culture, esp. after I work and travel extensively in the states for sometime. INSEAD is a very competitive school for those people choosing to become a consultant, and not so good for those longing financial service -- but there's still chances, and no schools will ensure you 100% to land on your ideal jobs.
Dear lady, received your mail. I feel pretty lucky to meet with a couple of kind INSEAD admits. I wonder whether kindness and helpfulness are among the criteria of INSEAD admission
Now I have to invest more time on my proficiency of English and expression skills.I hope to articulate in the possible interview, which actually is my last chance in this application season.
Although working abroad for a long time, I didn't feel improving much in my oral English, since mostly I worked in non-English speaking countries and most of our clients didn't or speak poorly English.A big difference from your guys, from US, singapore or foreign invested companies in China.
But that doesn't justify an excuse, I am working hard now to make a change.
Sino, easy lah. I am sure you have big chance to be with us in INSEAD. You've been doing good.
Also, stingscn, you are 08 Jul intake as well? Which campus are you going? Fonty?
I am now reading tons of materials the school sent to the admits and preparing essays for scholarship... Really time-consuming, haha.
stringcn should be Jul07 intake Did she defer entry?
It seems very few from Chinese Mainland apply Jan 08 round...
Feel a bit depressed along these days. Next week I will take a business trip to Viet Nam,and I hope this travel can make me revive.
Vietnam? time to see some tanned MM... Lucky you, haha.
Hi!Man, Vietnese is not tanned that much, not worse than Guangxi girls They are of the same race of us Chinese. Viet Nam was ever one part of our empire till Song Dynasty. They are our close relatives, closer than Korean people.
I will try to be peep tom and shoot some pics to satisfy ur curiosity
Cheetah, that's wonderful! We're waiting for your photos then.
Inseadsh, I'm heading for Fontainebleau this Aug , and I haven't begun a single page of the reading -- I plan to do all those reading in June and July.
And what about the 3rd language? Are you planning to take some lessons before school? The course in Fonty is expensive, EUR 495 * 3 periods for the basic level, I'm definitely going to pick up some French in June when I'm back Shanghai.
Hey string, totally agree. Maybe we can go together.Haha.
Where are you getting the visa? from Sh or anywhere else?
Anybody got paper mail?
I suppose we should receive some materials from INSEAD at some stage, right?
Well, to update you, nnm, I just got any email from INSEAD, inviting me to join the Open Days of May 12 in Fonty. I suppose you should have got that E-mail too.
For other reading materials like visa application, housing and Must know...etc, you can download from INEAD online community. It is very helpful. They should have sent you the link plus username and password.
Any further question, let me know lah.

My current concern is the visa. It seems to be a complicated process...
Are you gonna get visa in China?

I suppose we should get a paper certificate of offer in order to apply for the visa and that's why i'm concerned about mail.
have to apply overseas since by law i'm not a chinese (actually i am)
nnm, havent you got the paper offer letter from INSEAD yet? I got it couple of weeks ago. Also, you should have settled the deposit to INSEAD to secure your seat in Jul 2008 Class as well, havent you?

I secured the seat but haven't got the mail. I'll contact the school after the Easter.
I got an email from them. They said they would notice me once they confirmed with their finance that they had received the money.
Well, fienfde, i dont think any of us is going there this early. You wanna go?
Btw, what's your profile name in INSEAD website?
Inseadsh,
haha, I have told the school I won't go. I had thought someone may attend the open day. how about we have a chinese admits meet-up?

Good idea! We should meet both online and offline!
I'm going back to Shanghai around mid-June, I guess, and I'll defintely attend our meetings after that. Or if we need somebody to be the faciliator, I'm happy to be the one!
Guys, anyone got a letter from IAA, inviting you to attend the annual meeting in Beijing?
They said they would cover the cost, wondering what kind of cost they were referring to.
Also, fienfde, let's all find a time to catch up sometime later. nnm, you me and stringscn (Her name is Karen and for sure a beautiful gal). ^ ^

Mid Aug? The program will start from mid Aug as well...
今天收到INSEAD Dean的Email,虽然知道肯定抄送了几百个人,不过还是感动中...
Btw,how many people want to go to the annual meeting in BJ and Shanghai?
Mid Aug? The program will start from mid Aug as well...
Hi, everyone, I'm going to HEC this september. We could meet in Shanghai or in Paris soon. Be good neighbour
HEC also has the headcount for Alcatel scholarship. The school told me that such application jury will start in May and result in June. Good Luck to all! Also welcome to HEC meeting room.
Yep, SH07, nice to know you. Last Saturday, I also attended the CBSF get-together, heard somewhat about you and others heading INSEAD.
Now I'm doing with Cela application and French loan application.
French loan? No idea how to do that at all. Hehe.
I'm also dealing with Cela now. Let's talk on msn.
"INSEAD has got the second highest yield-rate, only lower than Harvard."
This is pretty much what the admission director said in 2004.
That's what they do to maintain so high yield rate
Which is cause, which is result?
Hoho, sino. easy. You are getting paranoid.
Have they started to release interview invitation?
Haha, the interview invite will release by 11 May. I read some threads in BW forum. Some guys say applying in early round doesn't gurantee higher chance...a lot of waitlist in R1.
Forget it now and just try my luck.
Thanks all guys and wish you a happy holiday of May.
