1) 此题最明显的错误在於那个多添的"those". gonghao 班长对了。"those" is not necessary. 如果你还看不清楚的话，请看我增加的红字：

很明显了吧。

2)本题另一个潜在的错误是第二个 "to". 请再看下面：
D. apparently assisting flies to taste the hydrocarbons on prospective mates to distinguish their own species from those of other.

这里有两个动作发出者的危险：一为flies, 二为hydrocarbons。
虽然不能说100%错，但做题时没其它错误时还是要小心把它揪出来。呵呵。。。

3) Last but not least, 750分的大奖发给。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。

请教各位大牛们,45題解答这里的c选除了解答所说的C: which无指代外,是否有犯了修饰歧义的错误,因which 变成在修饰前面的courtship而非句子的主语Hydrocarbon,造成扭曲句意,不好意思,我只想确认我的想法是否正确???

You are right,
assist (somebody) in doing something is more commonly used, but assist sb to do something is also acceptable.

都可以。当然，在这一题中flies 是蛮明显的动作发出者，但两个"to"连用的情形在某些句子中就可能有歧义。

D是指幫助flies去作一件事(to taste the hydrocarbons on prospective mates )，所以

這邊的to主詞是fly，在接後面一個TO邏輯上不符

E則是限定要taste the hydrocarbons on prospective mates的Flies,藉由xxx去辨別自己的同種，邏輯清楚

不過誰可告訴我E from others正確的理由？

other + 复数名词(species) = others

所以不需要写those of others

their own species 似乎就是themselves的意思

如果those补出来，就变成了species of others

为什么可以their own species 就不能others' species 呢

应该算是idiom吧？请执教

还有一种可能

others可以是前面任何一个复数名词的others

other flies

other hydrocarbons

other mates

other species

歧义是不可避免的，只能通过逻辑意思进行理解。others本身不就是代词，所以不能加those

distinguish their own species from those of。。其中的THOSE就近指代SPECIES的话，就成了 SPECIES OF OTHERS，这样就很罗嗦复杂了，直接用OWN SPECIES 和OTHERS比就可以了。但是此句还是有写问题，可以看一下下面我对E的分析。

。。apparently assisting flies that taste the hydrocarbons on prospective mates in distinguishing their own species froM。。。 THAT是一个定语从句修饰FLIES，去掉它的话就是ASSIT STH IN DOING STH的习惯搭配了
