1. Artificial intelligence emerged during the late 1950’s as an academic discipline based on the assumption that computers are able to be programmed to think like people.

(A) are able to be programmed to think like people

(B) were able to be programmed to think as people

(D) could be programmed to think like people（D）

(E) are capable of being programmed to think like people do

这个题我想请教一下如果把D的like people改成as people do，是不是也对？

改成as people can应该对.和C就差不多了.

think like people 像人那样思考

as people can 正如人能思考

as people do 正如人思考那样

like sth像什么一样，是最基本的用法

as 只有做prep时才有像的意思

C错在把句子补充完整：as people can be program to think。

but people can not be program 原句的意思是as people think不是as people be program...

同样改成as people do更加错的，因为do对应的谓语动词是program不是think，而且从形式上看could be programmed和do主被动不平行。

我认为这道题还有一个be able to 与can 区别的问题。一般来说，be able to 是由主观能动性的，一般是指人。所以用在这里就不合适了。
