404.In the 1980’s the rate of increase of the minority population of the United States was nearly twice as fast as the 1970’s.
(A) twice as fast as
(B) twice as fast as it was in
(C) twice what it was in
(D) two times faster than that of
(E) two times greater than
这里为什么要用what it was in呢？
难道B不够工整么？

fast不能用来形容rate吧？

因为用fast 去形容rate是不对的，很奇怪，
除非是increase in rate 才通

可是google里有很多 a fast rate的用法

Rate was nearly twice as fast as it was in the 1970’s---- as 后面好像不能加从句。
Twice as fast as the rate in the 1970应该就对了。
