标题: marketing program ranking

Does anyone have a GLOBAL ranking for marketing programs? I could only find one for US schools (attached below). But how are NON-US schools ranked? (e.g. INSEAD, LBS, etc.)  Is there a WORLD WIDE ranking for marketing programs?

1. Northwestern University (Kellogg) (IL)
2. University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)
3. Duke University (Fuqua) (NC)
    Harvard University (MA)
5. University of Michigan–Ann Arbor (Ross)
6. Stanford University (CA)
7. Columbia University (NY) University of Chicago
9. University of California–Berkeley (Haas)
    University of Texas–Austin (McCombs)
11. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan)
12. Dartmouth College (Tuck) (NH)
      University of California–Los Angeles (Anderson)
14. New York University (Stern)
      University of Florida (Warrington)
16. University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler)
17. University of Virginia (Darden)
      University of Wisconsin–Madison

I assume you are talking about PhD program, then you may wish to go to http://citm.utdallas.edu/utdrankings/rankingbydate.aspx. Check it out for the ranking of non-US.schools. You may also want to check with placement record. It is the most important predictor for the reputation of a PhD program (and that's why duke is NOT that top as a matter of fact).

In terms of publication at JCR,JMR,JM,Mktg Sci 2000-2006, the top 10 (worldwide)would be as follows.

RankUniversity NameNumber of ArticlesTotal Weight
1University of Pennsylvania (The Wharton School)7841.42
2Columbia University (Columbia Graduate School of Business)5730.70
3Northwestern University (Kellogg School of Management)5030.47
4New York University (Leonard N. Stern School of Business)5227.92
5Duke University (The Fuqua School of Business)5427.70
6University of Florida (Warrington College of Business)4426.57
7University of Southern California (Marshall School of Business)4425.42
8University of Chicago (Graduate School of Business)4325.25
9University of Michigan at Ann Arbor (Ross School of Business)4325.03

The rank above is based on the number of articles. However, programs differ a lot in the number of faculty. Wharton, kellogg and stern all have more faculty members than program like CMU and Maryland. So that can explain why wharton kellogg and stern can have more papers than cmu and maryland.Srinivasan and Wedel are both big guys even compared with faculty at wharton kellogg and stern.

Yes. You are so right. There are small but very top marketing programs such as MIT and the two you mentioned. Columbia's website has statistics on publications adjusted for dept. size, where MIT/Wharton/Chicago top the ranking.Small-top programs win especially when your research interests pretty match the focal dept.More often, large size makes sense as you are more likely to have more connections and projects. So medium/large size+ a few hD intake is the typical case for top programs.

Thanks for the great info, bobwangwb & kndx!!! I guess that there is no comprehensive ranking that considers every factor, right??

To summarize:
when choosing a program, it is important to look at:
* the department's publication records
* placement records
* size of the deparment
* faculty's research interests
