有一点不同, personal statement 通常包涵 purpose of study,还有自己的research experience, background, etc. (视个人情况而定)

purpose of study 通常只要写,why this program, what u wanna do, etc.

你应该好好看看你申请的学校网页,通常都会有一个short explanation of what they wanna see in ur this essay

the cliche so-called Personal Statement is required by most B-schools, in which you should draw the eyeballs of readers and intrigue them by recount your experience, purpose of your study.

Totally different

Personal Statement is a retrospect of your past achievement while Purpose of Study should be a summary of your prospective research.
