While there is no doubt to use singular form of number in Q5, it is
hard to appreciate the use of plural numbers in Q72. Any clues? Thanks!

I did a search and found the use of the word number is a quite common question. liu977 provided us some clues:

先声明偶不是斑竹，只是谈谈自己的看法：

32题中的number是数量，具体说就是在外工作的妇女数，可能是100000也可能是200000，但都是某一个具体的数，因此只能是单数形式

251题以前做时因为没有出题点所以没注意这个问题，谢谢提醒，查了longman，理解这里的numbers是复数做“人数”讲，字典中的例子是：Visitor numbers increase in the summer.游客人数在夏季增加
