E.

long-overdue
E。award sth in recognition ...
BCD
He was awarded a gold cup in acknowledgment of his creative achievements
for the development of the company.
Martin Ruther King Jr. was awarded the peace Nobal Prize of 1964 for advocating nonviolence policy in the movement for civil rights.
BEE
a substitute for the telephone和a tool for private conversation是同一个事物,所以应该用同位结构,而不是C中的定语从句结构(修饰作用)
(cannot) conceive of (doing) something
Many people can't conceive of a dinner without meat or fish.
conceive that
He could not conceive that anything really serious could be worrying his friend.
conceive what/why/how etc
I can hardly conceive what it must be like here in winter.
conceive of something/somebody as something
Language may be conceived of as a process which arises from social interaction.
BCE
第二题的C中that从句没有有问题,E的other than what it is,的,不妥。
E选项,a substitute for the telephone, a tool for private conversation 和后面的a tool for communicating with a large, public audience,感觉应该有并列,如果将三个并列成分分在两个句子里面是不是也有不妥?所以我认为用"other than what it is, preciously the opposite" 作为插入的成分,保持并列的完整性,这样会好一些。
