我感觉是因为explaining所修饰的部分不清晰，到底是讲Harvard anthropologist所发现的情况能够去explain还是Harvard anthropologist发现情况的这个事件本身能够去explain。

句子的原意应该是前者，即Harvard anthropologist所发现的情况能够去explain，而不是发现这个动作本身explain了什么。不过因为explaining跟在整个句子后面，造成指代不清。cooking food with fire这个短语看我看来也是正确的讲法，所以错不在这个短语，而在explaining

XDF语法老师讲过动名词在GMAT中很少选，因为会有歧义（作为中国人我一直没感到，但觉得此理论还比较管用，而且在OG中也有过类似排除DOING的官方解释）而且Like在GMAT中不做举例使用，like像...为口语，

我選了B，但是對date back以及時間狀語的的用法很疑惑，這裡難道不用be dated back to xxx years ago麽？
