#164 Useful protein drugs, such as insulin , must still be administered by the cumbersome procedure of injection under the skin. If proteins are taken orally, they are digested and can not reach their target cells. Certain nonprotein drugs , however, contain chemical bonds that are not broken down by the digestive system . They can , then, be taken orally.
The statement s above most strongly support a claim that a research procedure that sucessfully accomplishes which of the following would be beneficial to users of protein drugs?
(A) Coating inslin with compounds that are broken down by target cells, whose chemical bonds are resistant to digestion.
(B) Converting into protein compounds, by procedures that work in lab.. the nonprotein drugs that resist digestion.
(C) Removing permianently from the digestive system any substances that digest proteins.
(D) Determining , in a systematic way, what enzymes and bacteria are present in the normal digestive system and whether they tend to be broken down within the body.
(E) Determining the amount of time each nonprotein drug takes to reach its target cells.
#159 Half of the subjects in an experiment---- the experimental group ----consumed large quantities of a popular artificial sweetener. Afterward, this group showed lower cognitive ability than did the other half of the subjects--- the control group--- who did not consume the sweetener. The detrimental effects were attributed to an amino acid that is one of sweetener's prinicipal constituents.
Which of the following , if true, would best support the conclusion that some ingredient of the sweetener was responsible for the expenimental results?
(B) The amino acid referred to in the conclusion is a component of all protein , some of which must be consumed for adequate nutrition.-------

[/face]

[/face]

请问The statement s above most strongly support a claim that a research procedure that sucessfully accomplishes which of the following would be beneficial to users of protein drugs?

if removing substances that digest proteins(choice C)enabled protein drugs to be taken orally,it would be at the expense of normal digestive function.

(B) The amino acid referred to in the conclusion is a component of all proteins, some of which must be consumed for adequate nutrition.
Choice B indicates that, outside of the experiment, both groups consume the amino acid. If relatively small quantities are involved, the conclusion is unaffected; otherwise it is weakened.
似乎和做实验无关, 所以根本无法理解"the conclusion is unaffected; otherwise it is weakened".

If relatively small quantities are involved, the conclusion is unaffected;otherwise it is weakened. 選項B中如果只有相當少量的amino acid(在proteins consumed for adequate nutrition中)被攝取,那麼結論是不受影響的,反之如果量很大的話,結論就會被weaken.
显然这里的 quantities involved是outside of the experiment, 那怎么会对experiment result有影响呢?

Choice B indicates that, outside of the experiment, both groups consume the amino acid. If relatively small quantities are involved, the conclusion is unaffected; otherwise it is weakened.

...
對於OG這邊的解釋我的理解是,實驗中有兩組人"consume large quantities"和"did't consume ",而只有"consume large quantities"這組有lower cognitive abilities的現象,是造成結論"some ingredient(amino acid) of the sweetener was responsible for the experiment results-- lower cognitive abilities."

我对B的想法是:amino acid 既然是a component of all proteins,而且some of which must be consumed for adequate nutrition,那么人都会摄入amino acid ,无论是否有这个实验。换句话说就是the experimental group和the control group都摄入了amino acid 。 Choice B indicates that, outside of the experiment, both groups consume the amino acid. If relatively small quantities are involved, the conclusion is unaffected; otherwise it is weakened.
