2. with speeds that are much higher than are
3. at much higher speeds as are
4. at much higher speeds than that

答案是E。我对于这个are有些疑惑。much higher than是用来修饰speeds的，而speeds是一个宾语。宾语的比较记得是不用加动词的。。如果E是at speeds much higher than those currently possible是不是更好些呢？谢谢！

个人观点：at speeds much higher than those currently possible不行，因为是higher的前面是at speeds，而不是单纯的speeds，不能直接跟those作比较；are在这里并不是动词，而是在省略句子成分情况下的一种习惯用法。
