A: due to + 动作名词不够有效；

B: 同上

C: but分句后面没有动词, 会让人产生和because they enhance … but …的歧义

D: correct

E: because of + doing 一定错

注意：

1、 due to，because of 都是连词because的迷惑选项

2、 but… 的对称有两种都语法说的通，通过补足助动词来区别

上面是find gg的的解释，但是我还是不清楚，为什么C选项but后面要补足 are？我觉得句子结构是traits are not...but....，如果加了are就变成了traits are not...but are....，就不对称了啊

顺便问一句，这里的favored怎么理解？？

C的歧义是

because they enhance reproduction or survival, but simply random by-products

D选项读了几遍觉得也是很顺口的。。。。如果说，c 选项的But有担当介词，表示“除了。。。”的话，的确不能选，但是，这个又和以前认的not .... but的平行对称的知识点有冲突。。请指点啊。。

个人觉得楼主的解释挺充分的，有个are在but后面整个句子很清晰。至于
“PDF版本的笔记内特别提到说 be not...but be结构就是对的。。。。。不理解阿！！！！！怎么不是 not be....but.be ...?”
我看这是系动词的特点，比较：如果是正常的动词，你加not时就一定要加do之类的词，e.g. do not have.....but have....，但系动词前面不会有别的助动词了，所以就只好把系动词放在not前去做平行结构了。个人观点，只供参考。

我倒觉得C的错误不在于"有歧意",而是在于"不平行".

这句话中,因为but前有个逗号,所以不会误理解为 "enhance...but (enhance)...". 而且reproduction和survival都是抽象概念,但by-products是实物,没法平行,所以不能理解为 reproduction or survival but by-products.
这句话问题出在simply后少了个定冠词the. 前半句已给了提示"not the products of...",于是后半句应该出现类似"but the products of..."的形式,这样才能平行.
D就解决了平行问题,它采用另一种平行方式: are not..., but are...

not are...but are...对称

但是没有说not are的，只有are not。所以不破坏平行。

还有个问题，because they enhance reproduction or survival里面的they不会产生指代不明的问题吗？
