The answer is A. I don't understand why it is A since it uses "was" in the sentence and the subject is "Fossils" which is not singlar.

was是的第二个定语从句subsequently butchered by hominids的谓语，两个定语从句都是修饰a whale，而不是fossils；主句的谓语是have，fossils为复数！
