Double the figure places the emphasis of the sentence on the number of ministers; for 1977 correctly completes the comparison. 但对于下面885中的一题: 17. In the 1980’s the rate of increase of the minority population of the United States was nearly twice as fast as the 1970’s. (A) twice as fast as (B) twice as fast as it was in (C) twice what it was in (D) two times faster than that of (E) two times greater than 答案C. 为什么2个题里面其中一个的解释是what it was是awkward?而在另外一个里面又是答案?难道仅仅是因为twice 和double的用法区别还是因为别的? 另外请教increase的用法 72. The number of undergraduate degrees in engineering awarded by colleges and universities in the United States increased by more than twice from 1978 to 1985. (A) increased by more than twice (B) increased more than two times (C) more than doubled (D) was more than doubled (E) had more than doubled 答案是c 请问 b 和d为什么错了. 问题比较多请大家耐心讨论.

应该是一个 twice as fast as in 的句子。as + 1970 是个错误句子！

(B) twice as fast as it was in 中的it was 显得有些多余了，如果是 twice as fast as in就对了！

twice what it was in正确

第４提的　double the figure for 1977　相对double what it was in 1977　比较清楚，没有awkward
", twice as much
as 1977."注意那个＂逗号＂　与你的８８５比较　就知道为什么　awkward了

各位，请参考白勇语法第七章比较结构P189页。四种形式：twice as much ...as;twice as many...as;twice the n.;twice what...,NO.4的正确答案要么是twice as many as in 1977或double the figure for 1977.同理，No17题选C.

No.72题，increase,more than语义重复，b答案two times错，d答案有主动的时候主动优于被动，绝大多数情况double用主动

第一道题中的what it was 中的it没有明确的指代对象,885里那题it很明确指代rate

我觉得这个地方最主要的问题还是twice后面跟一个可以具体化为数字的名词，比如increase／amount。。。的时候，as...as就显得多余了，第一个题里面的it无所指，第二个题里面的it有所指，所以答案就很明显了。
