原文就是words，但我想应该是works

A中的THAT无指代对象。 earlier works on slavery 和Blassingame’s innovative study 做比较，多出来的THAT有做什么成份呢？？？

That's precisely what I was thinking, so maybe the answer is wrong, or is it possible the "that" refers the study in the works? Indeed the "study" in logic may be slightly different from the "works"..

It seems to be the only plausible way to explain the answer, though I still think D is correct.
