Choice E, the best answer, uses the adverbial phrase more quickly than to modify the verb phrase gain weight.
I know E is correct. But it seems it omits "do"?

So what are the rules about the omitting in the comparative setences? Wondering now...

我认为这个原则就是：在比较对象并不产生争议的情况下是可以省略do的。这里很明显是
这句话是比较these calves(什么样的calves呢？exercise and associated with other calves)和those calves（raised in confinement)得比较，没有其他的比较可能，所以是可以省略do的。
