ZDF88, 117 [face=Verdana]#88) During the first one hundred fifty years of the existence of this republic, no one expected the press to be fair; newspapers were mostly shrill, scurrilous, and partisan.
no one expected that the press was fair
#117) Contrary to popular belief, victors in the ancient Greek Olympic Games received cash prizes in addition to their laurel wreaths.
in contrast with 和 in spite of 有什么问题?

88 如果要改的话,也应该是: no one expected that the press would be fair
117 in contrast with 和 in spite of 的问题在于意思不对。
88 如果要改的话,也应该是: no one expected that the press would be fair
