Sulfur dioxide, a major contributor to acid rain, is an especially serious pollutant because it diminishes the respiratory system’s ability to deal with all other pollutants.
A. an especially serious pollutant because it diminishes the respiratory system’s
ability to deal
B. an especially serious pollutant because of diminishing the respiratory system’s
capability of dealing
C. an especially serious pollutant because it diminishes the capability of the
respiratory system in dealing
D. a specially serious pollutant because it diminishes the capability of the respiratory
system to deal
E. a specially serious pollutant because of diminishing the respiratory system’s
ability to deal
--------------------------------------
Kernland imposes a high tariff on the export of unprocessed cashew nuts in order to
ensure that the nuts are sold to domestic processing plants. If the tariff were lifted and unprocessed cashews were sold at world market prices, more farmers could profit by growing cashews. However, since all the processing plants are in urban areas, removing the tariff would seriously hamper the government’s effort to reduce urban unemployment over the next five years.
Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument?
A. Some of the by-products of processing cashews are used for manufacturing paints
and plastics.
B. Other countries in which cashews are processed subsidize their processing plants.
C. More people in Kernland are engaged in farming cashews than in processing them.
D. Buying unprocessed cashews at lower than world market prices enables cashew
processors in Kernland to sell processed nuts at competitive prices.
E. A lack of profitable crops is driving an increasing number of small farmers in
Kernland off their land and into the cities.
-----------------------------------
Business Consultant: Some corporations shun the use of executive titles because they
fear that the use of titles indicating position in the corporation tends to inhibit communication up and down the corporate hierarchy. Since an executive who uses a
title is treated with more respect by outsiders, however, use of a title can facilitate an executive’s dealings with external businesses. The obvious compromise is for these 24 executives to use their corporate titles externally but not internally, since even if it is widely known that the corporation’s executives use executive titles outside their organization, this knowledge does not by itself inhibit communication within the corporation.
In the consultant’s reasoning, the two portions in boldface play which of the following roles?
A. The first presents an obstacle to achieving a certain goal; the second presents a
reason for considering that goal to be undesirable.
B. The first is a consideration that has led to the adoption of a certain strategy; the
second presents a reason against adopting that strategy.
C. The first describes a concern that the consultant dismisses as insignificant; the
second is a consideration that serves as the basis for that dismissal.
D. The first is a belief for which the consultant offers support; the second is part of
that support.
E. The first is a belief against which evidence is offered; the second is part of the
evidence offered against that belief.

WORD CHOICE: especially, specially
It is better to use especially in front of adjectives to emphasize them, although some people also use specially
The cake was especially good.
This part is especially interesting.
Use especially to say that something applies more to one thing or situation than to others
Everyone loved it, especially the children.
You should call first, especially if you're going to be late.
Use specially to say that something is done or made for a particular purpose
I got this specially for you. specially designed equipment
!! Especially never comes at the start of a sentence He loves fruit.
He especially likes kiwis (NOT Especially he likes ...).

NOT use of executive titles。 要指代也应该是the use of executive titles啊。
第一部分代表the use of executive titles 。
Both the first and the second are considerations that serves as the basis for the main conclusion.

CMore people in Kernland are engaged in farming cashews than in processing them.

The obvious compromise is for these 24 executives to use their corporate titles externally but not internally
第一个boldface是the use of executive titles 的缺点
而第二个boldface是the use of executive titles 的优点!
我觉得 shun the use of executive titles 可以作为a certain strategy,第一个boldface是支持这种a certain strategy的reason!
第二个则是againt such strategy的reason!

D. Buying unprocessed cashews at lower than world market prices enables cashew
processors in Kernland to sell processed nuts at competitive prices.
E. A lack of profitable crops is driving an increasing number of small farmers in
Kernland off their land and into the cities.
F:The urban worker who lose his job could get a new job in urban in a short time.
我选了A ? B
B,other country,
因为题干是:某某做了blah blah(strategy),是因为害怕blah blah(consideration)。然而blah blah(the reason,与前面那个consideration的观点相反),因为blah blah(支持这个reason的evidence)。。。

NOT use of executive titles。 要指代也应该是the use of executive titles啊。
i think B is the right answer.
"the adoption of a certain strategy" refers to the consultants' action - to "shun the use of executive titles".

As a member of WTO, China Government consents to lower the import tariff, to lift the non-tariff barriers gradually, so the influences of entering WTO are multi-faced.
The European Commission has urged France to lift its ban on imports of British beef.
Kernland imposes a high tariff on the export of unprocessed cashew nuts in order to ensure that the nuts are sold to domestic processing plants.
A. Some of the by-products of processing cashews are used for manufacturing paints and plastics.
B. Other countries in which cashews are processed subsidize their processing plants.
C. More people in Kernland are engaged in farming cashews than in processing them.
D. Buying unprocessed cashews at lower than world market prices enables cashew processors in Kernland to sell processed nuts at competitive prices.
E. A lack of profitable crops is driving an increasing number of small farmers in Kernland off their land and into the cities.

在Dictionary.com上查到
capability: | 2.the ability to undergo or be affected by a given treatment or action: the capability of glass in resisting heat. |

A
E (Choice D actually supports the argument, instead of weakening. IMHO)
B. Not sure.

所以留AC;
because of 和because 在这里,
后者更直接;
A和C比较,A中ability直接加了to do sth., 而C中capability后面没有直接加in dong sth..

He especially likes kiwis (NOT Especially he likes ...).
good explain.

第一题语法,GMAT语法中就是ablilty to优于capablity of。。。

第二题逻辑:政府征关税,农民受损(因为他们本可以进军世界市场,开拓销路的),但城市工人受益(因为这样农民伯伯的产品得卖给他们);政府不征关税吧,农民收益,城市工人受损;
CR 2: B
The conclusion is the last long sentence: The obviouse... is that..., since....
The first boldface is the reason for the strategy stated at beginning. No further evidence is provided.
The second boldface is against adopting the strategy, considing the other effect compared to the first boldface.
These two considerations lead to the dismiss of the beginning strategy, thus the final conclusion-obvious compromise....
