1. The sale of government surplus machinery will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until the supply lasts.

(A) will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until the supply lasts
(E) will begin at 9 a.m. and continue as long as the supply lasts

答案是: (E). 而(A) 与 (E) 就是 until 和 as long as 的区别, 但是(A)为什么错呢?

until 与 as long as 在用法上有什么不同?

6. There is ample evidence, derived from the lore of traditional folk medicine, that naturally occurring antibiotics can usually be modified to make them more effective drugs.

(B) are usually able to be modified to make them more effective drugs

答案是用 can, 但是我不知道 "be able to" 用在这有什么不好? 两者的用法有什么不同?

我的感觉 ,  until  后面应该是加点时间 , 而 as long as 后面加一段时间  ,这个和 last 是对应的

  be able to  一般用在生命体上  ,而且应该是主动的能力
文章要表达的是这个东西可以被加工 ,所以不是  antibiotic 本身的能力

will do.. as long as...

请问 3-6中的选项, D,E.

a more effective drug and more effective drugs 的区别, 是不是因为有 them 所以选复数?

的确会有歧义

但是这道题为了保证them和drugs的一致,也只有E选项相对而言好一点了

until: 直到 as long as: 只要

用until也可以，不过后面的从句要改成the supply runs out.

原文的意思是：出售会持续，只要还有供应；或出售会持续，直到供应耗尽

所以A的问题，在于逻辑意思的错误。

第6题我认为选D。

more effective drugs确实歧义，换成a more effective drug就避免了这个问题。

而且，没有理由认为make A B结构中，A如果是复数，B就一定要复数吗？

从逻辑关系上讲，make这个词并不是将A和B对等比较的词，可以理解为把A做成B，把很多个个体A做成单独一种个体B，是完全可能的。

hardly agree.

我觉得此题意在考察until后面不能接延续性动词。
