90. Since 1986, when the Department of Labor began to allow investment officers' fees to be based on how the funds they manage perform, several corporations began paying their investment advisers a small basic fee, with a contract promising higher fees if the managers perform well.

I feel confused about the piont:

investment officers' fees and fees of investment officers

coz teacher said " 's " use for people and animal

why here need to use "n Of n"? not "N's N"?

俺来抢1楼！怕被骂，所以回答一下子~ 因为后面的they必须指代前面的一个独立语法元素，所有格不可以做独立语法元素

OG 的说法: .... in each of these options, they has no referent, since officers is a possessive modifier of fees...

就是说, 如果用officers' fees 的话, 后面的 they manage 里面的they就找不到指代的对象了.

意思就是說 they 要指到 investment officer

但是當 investment officer 被用來當 fee 的所有格

(investment officer's fees)

they 就不能正確的指向 investment officer 所以改成

fees of officers.

但是我彷彿好像記得如果是

A of B 的型態的話後面的代名詞通常是指 A

舉例: the capital city of China is famous for its special way of cooking duck.

its = capital city's

是不是base on 后面不能跟复杂的形式啊~和despite一样呢???

base on 后面直接加the performance意思更加清楚吧, 具体规则说不上来
