The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft will orbit the asteroid Eros for a year, slowly moving closer to the surface of the object to make ever more precise measurements that scientists hope will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago.
答案是C,我认为是A, 语法角度讲两个都没有错,但是我认为A中to make优于C中for making
support A!
get closer to do sth. is better than get closer for doing sth.
The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous ....... and scientists hope that they ......
A, B, D都不選因為 enable "them" to...
C---scientists hope that they...
So I prefer C.

C中and scientists hope that they will…
3. enable to和be able to不能隨意代換.
如果将scientists hope理解为插入语,则that指代measurements作为that scientists hope will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago 的主语,则them 优先指代measurements,明显的指代逻辑错误。
A的them是指scientists
因為是"precise measurements" enable them.........
no clue, C is totally ok, only by this, 1st sentence and 2nd sentence has no relationship.
vote for A
open to discuss
A的ever more没有比较对象
the knife is for splicing the bread
表示目的,要用to do
THANKS
我的理解跟这位同学的差不多,因为A虽然用to do表目的应优于for doing,但是A里有个明显的语法错误就是measurement that scientist hope will...,that在此应指代measurement,引导定语从句并做该从句的主语,那么后面应该就是主语怎么怎么样才对,好的表达方式应该改为:measurement that will enable scientist to...
The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft will orbit the asteroid Eros for a year, slowly moving closer to the surface of the object to make ever more precise measurements that scientists hope will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago.
The principal feature of the redesigned checks is a series of printed instructions
that the company hopes will help merchants confirm a check’s authenticity, which includes reminders to watch the endorsement, compare signatures, and view the watermark while holding the check to the light.
A is wrong.
scientists hope will enable them to....
What is the use of hope? Subject or verb? Whatever.
measurements that scientists hope will enable them to....
The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft(Subject)
will orbit
the asteroid Eros
for a year, slowly moving closer to the surface of the object to make ever more precise measurements that scientists hope
will enable them to(here I can not understand what the Subject is and if the Subject is clear, it indicates that the sentence is wrong because in this case this sentence has two Subjects…)
understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago.
The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft will orbit the asteroid Eros for a year, slowly moving closer to the surface of the object to make ever more precise measurements that scientists hope will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago.
a中以slowly moving开头的现在分词结构修饰前面的(NEAR) spacecraft will orbit ,而这个分词结构中又用that引导的定语从句修饰measurements,整个结构清晰,简洁。
GWD30-Q17:
By the same techniques used for genetically enhancing plants, making them disease- or pest-resistant, researchers have been able to increase the amount of protein in potatoes, sweet potatoes, and tobacco.
A. By the same techniques used for genetically enhancing plants, making them
B. With the same techniques to genetically enhance plants, so that they are
C. Employing the same techniques used to genetically enhance plants so that they are
D. Employing the same techniques to genetically enhance plants, which makes them
E. Employing the same techniques for genetically enhancing plants that make them
GWD-29-Q10
The principal feature of the redesigned checks is a series of printed instructions that the company hopes will help merchants confirm a check’s authenticity....

the new york times
The spacecraft will orbit Eros for a year, slowing moving closer to the surface to make ever more precise measurements, and greatly increase the understanding of what scientists believe are remnants of the formation of the solar system some four billion years ago
A选项中

怀疑(A) +1
这边for doing VS to do 的用法
A选项中that scientists hope will enable them to可能指的是The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft will orbit the asteroid 这件事,而并不是measurements, 因此不能用that指代,that只能指代具体事物,而C选项就没有这个问题。
