答案是E，但是我感觉E中的highway做同谓语放在Columbus后面，用逗号格开，成了修饰Columbus了

所以就选成了B，不知道这样理解对不对呢？

E选项中， Highway 作的是road system 的同位语.

built in the Americas prior to the arrival of Christopher Columbus 这部分是修饰road system 的。
