In the argument, it stated that people prefer microwave popcorn rathter than conventional popcorn.

Yeah, it is pretty tricky thus asks us a close stick to the argument need weakening and a clear-cut on the 'noise' infos. With this question the argument is as simple as this:
'Judging by the popularity of microwave popcorn, many people are willing to pay a high price for just a little additional convenience.'
The comparison made in the passage between microwave and traditional popcore is a noice.

我也覺得(D)所描述的先後次序比較對,而且Alicia確實有提出Fact,但是這個Fact對支持新criterion的力量好像又不夠強.

我是这样理解A选项的：A 质疑microwave popcorn 的 popularity，因为他卖的没有conventional popcorn 好
原文说microwave popcorn popular，因为他和其他microwave products 相比，卖的好
两者比较范围不同，即使A成立，也不能说明microwave popcorn not popular，因为即使microwave popcorn卖不过conventional popcorn，但从绝对销售量上，他还是很popular的，只不过conventional popcorn比他还要popular罢了。
原文的结论可以简化成：
microwave popcorn convenient ＝》 microwave popcorn popular
从现象找原因，最常见的削弱方法就是他因，即不是因为convenience，而是其他原因导致了 microwave popcorn popular。

With pollen samples, you are trying to deduce the weather conditions. With radiocarbon dating, you are trying to deduce the date. They are independent techniques and give different results.
