标题: OG11 8-16
In Swartkans territory, archaeologists discovered charred bone fragments dating back one million years. Analysis of the fragments, which came from a variety of animals, showed that they had been heated to temperatures no higher than those produced in experimental campfires made from branches of white stinkwood, the most common tree around Swartkans.
Which of the following, if true, would, together with the information above, provide the best basis for the claim that the charred bone fragments are evidence of the use of fire by early hominids?
(A) The white stinkwood tree is used for building material by the present-day inhabitants of Swartkans. ,
B Forest fires can heat wood to a range of temperatures that occur in campfires.
(C) The bone fragments were fitted together by the archaeologists to form the complete skeletons of several animals.
(D) Apart from the Swartkans discovery, there is reliable evidence that early hominids used fire as many as 500,000 years ago.
(E) The bone fragments were found in several distinct layers of limestone that contained primitive cutting tools known to have been used by early hominids.
不明白为什么会选E?并没有与fire有关阿???我觉得B很好,请哪位明白人解答一下?

(E) The bone fragments were found in several distinct layers of limestone that contained primitive cutting tools known to have been used by early hominids.
E is correct b/c it basically provides the evidence that the early hominids co-existed with the animal(bones), which means that the animal was eaten by the early hominids after being cooked by campfire.

In choice B,forest fires might be made by either hominids who made a camp fire or lighting strike which occured frequently in forest.
B doesn't show strong relationship between hominids and the bone.Camp is a evidence which only shows that human did that but maybe not the hominids exclusively.

they had been heated to temperatures no higher than those produced in experimental campfires made from branches of white stinkwood, the most common tree around Swartkans.
这个条件给出有什么意义呢?
E很好说明了fragments与hominids有关,但是只是一个不很必要的条件,因为不能从E得出hominids used fire to cook animals。

以下是引用Dinaxie在2006-7-31 11:35:00的发言: they had been heated to temperatures no higher than those produced in experimental campfires made from branches of white stinkwood, the most common tree around Swartkans.
这个条件给出有什么意义呢?
说明不是火山爆发,岩浆之类烤得,是相对较低的温度烤的。
E很好说明了fragments与hominids有关,但是只是一个不很必要的条件,因为不能从E得出hominids used fire to cook animals。
火的温度不能证明是人造成的,这是B的缺陷,火还可以是闪电引起的,或是天太热自然的,不是人烤的。E说找到了一些工具,工具只能是人做出来的。因此E加强。
即B没有直接证据证明。E有直接证据证明
