The right answer is

Elephants emit low-frequency sounds, believed to originate from a small area on their foreheads, that they may use as a "secret language" to communicate with other members of the herd.

但我觉得分词做插入时,总有修饰对象不明的问题(believed 既可修饰sounds,又可修饰主句.)

,比如说,下面是一句错句:

In her book illustrations, carefully coordinating them with her narratives, Beatrix Potter capitalized on her keen observation and love of the natual world.

原因是coordinating既可修饰illustrations,又可修饰主句.

请高手指教!

从句子意思考虑，believed 是不修饰主句的

我觉得coordinating them with ...有歧义是因为它可能修饰illustrations 也可能修饰BP,夹心修饰

但believe 除了修饰sounds，后面一个分句没有名次给它修饰了，因此是对的

请指教

believed to originate from a small area on their foreheads是做插入语成分，that引导限定性定语从句。可是，作为限定性定从，和主句关系密切，怎么可以在中间插入插入成分呢？
