C. The physical characteristics
答案是A,可是我不知道c错在哪儿，谢谢指教

不是一样吧，many pieces of 是词组吧，a piece of 的复数，后面再跟名词，我自己的想法，不知道对不对？

Many of the physical characteristics和many of species 不是一个道理

many + 名词 = many of + the 名词

many of species 是错的, 应改为 many species 或 many of the species
