(D) which has 49 percent of the household incomes（C）

(E) in which 49 percent of them have household incomes

如果c 改成：in which  49 percent of the household incomes are 可以吗？

                            In 1982 the median income for married-couple families with a wage-earning wife was $9,000 more than a family where the husband only was employed.

(C) that for families in which only the husband

(D) a family in which only the husband（C）

In A and B, in which would be preferable to where, since where properly refers to location

In A and B, in which would be preferable to where, since where properly refers to location

"in which" is correct in syntax, but not preferable. For example:

date when ... is more preferable than date on which ...
city where ...                               than city in which ...

Sorry, still confused here...

From 137, we know that " where" properly refer to location. However, in 165, I think " community" as well as " family" dosn't mean location or place. In this way, can I way " in which" is better than " where" in 165?

Community在这里是指社区，生活小区，有很强的地理位置的意思, 和family不一样。
