1. The brain is something of a stimulus reduction system, a means to reduce, in order to comprehend, the nearly infinite amount of stimuli that reach the senses at any given moment.
(A) a means to reduce, in order to comprehend, the nearly infinite amount
(B) a means to reduce, in order to comprehend, the nearly infinite number
(C) the means of reducing for comprehending the nearly infinite number
(D) the means that reduces, in order to comprehend, the nearly infinite amount(B)
(E) the means for reducing in order to comprehend the nearly infinite amount
C哪里不对呢?插入语表目的没有for简洁吧,虽然用了分词
关于这道题还想请教一下,此题选项A与B的区别仅在amount和number,amount应该不是只能代不可数名词吧?记得在gwd的分类中有amount代可数名词复数的,如果是这样,这道题选项A错在哪儿了呢?
When drive-ins(汽车影院)were at the height of their popularity in the late
A. there are less than one-quarter that many
B. there are fewer than one-quarter as many
C. there are fewer than one-quarter of that amount
D. the number is less than one-quarter the amount
E. it is less than one-quarter of that amount
好像关于amount的问题没有被NN们看见,因为还没想通,所以找来了GWD的一道有amount的题再问问?
上述这个题C是正确答案。amount指的是4000个drive-ins的数量,还有用fewer来做比较,应该是可以指可数名词数量的吧?
那么大全701这道题A选项中amount of stimuli的不妥之处是什么呢?
盼望NN能再关注一下啊!
"a means to" is the phrase, it's just idiomism...
as far as "amount" vs "number", amount should work with both 可数 and 不可数. However, given that it's "infinite X", number is a match for "inifite" as in Math we often say "finite number", "infinite number". It's awkard to say "infinite amount" as "amount" normally works with "small" "huge" etc.
Just my personal opinion
我有问题
我觉的总是减少量咯
It's awkard to say "infinite amount" as "amount" normally works with "small" "huge" etc. ???/
到处都有infinite amount
seemingly infinite
amount of information available
是不是说amont只能修饰不可数名词才不选A呢?
我觉的不对amount既可修饰不可数名词,又能修饰可数名词
比如LONGMAN上的句子:
The amount of calories a person needs each day is determined by the type of work they do.
calories是calory的复数吧
没有理会楼上gonghaoGG的意思啊?
你认为是什么原因才不选A?
没有理会楼上gonghaoGG的意思啊?
你认为是什么原因才不选A?
我是想都没想就选了A啊
我觉的是减少量啊
但我看了帖子有人说是选B?
说是number是跟可数,amount跟不可数名词;我觉的不一定啊
顶出来~~
求解number and amount到底有什么区别~
The noun
amount has 4 meanings:
Meaning #1: how much of something is available
Meaning #2: a quantity of money
Synonyms: sum, sum of money, amount of money
Meaning #3: how much there is of something that you can measure
Synonyms: measure, quantity, quantum
Meaning #4: a quantity obtained by addition
Synonyms: sum, total
分析来,amount通常是不可数名词,只有在meaning4中,可以做可数,应该可以解释前面大全那个题,我觉得amount和number一起出现时,肯定是比较一个不可数,一个可数,至于大全那个题,因为the number逻辑上指代有误,所以不选。
我的一点看法,还请大家指正
reducing for comprehending the nearly infinite number
这样的结构里comprehend的宾语是infinite number of ...。根据句子开头的意思,infinite number of ... 的动词只能是reduce。C、E都可以有此排除。而 a means of/ for doing 都比较wordy。
A和B中间应该有一个是对的吧?个人还是喜欢A
楼主,答案是什么?
补充一下。
the number of 和 the amount of
个人觉得前者肯定是可数,后者可数不可数都可以。考虑到stimuli是复数,应该都没有问题。
但是句意上, infinite number of是不是不搭配?再说,simuli会用number 来计算么?
还是觉得A好一点。
