(E) Just as

如果D对，那么意味Hollywood movie和affluence相等。含义上似乎不可能。不过由于set with这里做不了谓语，排除了E。我有个模糊的地方，连词一定不能接短语吗？如果可以的话，E就对了

你没有搞清楚句子结构，Simplify the sentence structure:

___ a Hollywood movie set, the affluence masks reality.

"a movie set" is Noun, use "Like" (prep.)

"Just as" is conj. + complete sentence, E is out.

hollywood movie set and country's apparent new-found affluence has similarity that both of them are just apparently beautiful and with the barren content.

the answer is correct

it uses a kind of analogy

正如好莱坞的电影布景（其后没有东西）一样，这个国家表面上的富足......

这里不是movie和 affluence平行，而是movie set.

这题下流在set会被当作过于分词或者被当作动词
