Some communities in Florida are populated almost exclusively by retired people and contain few, if any families with small children. Yet these communities are home to thriving businesses specializing in the rental of furniture for infants and small children.

Which of the following, if true, best reconciles the seeming discrepancy described above?

A. The businesses specializing in the rental of children's furniture buy their furniture from distrutors outside of Florida.

B. The few children who do reside in these communities all know each other and often make overnight visit to one another's home.

C. Many residents of these communities who move frequently prefer renting their furniture to buying it outright.

D. Many residents of these communities must provide for the needs of visiting grandchildren several weeks a year.

E. Children's furniture available for rental is of the same quality as that available for sale in the store.

请问该社区主要是退休人员还是 almost exclusively 退休人员.

若almost exclusively 退休人员, 则该社区只包括少量有小孩的家庭. 这样的家庭怎能会有visiting grandchildren. 因为我将 almost exclysively 理解为本排除了retired people.

exclusively adv.排外地, 专有地是两个矛盾的解释.

Exclusively refers to something that is for a specific group or a type of people.

排他的指的是排exclusively之后的名词之外的。exclusively by A指的就是排除非A,即只包括A。你把它简单的理解为“仅仅为”就理解了。比如下例：

This sample room is exclusively for women.
这试衣室仅供妇女使用。
