69. Although she had signed a pledge of abstinence
while being an adolescent, Frances Willard was 35 years old before she chose to become a temperance activist.
(A)    while being an adolescent
(B)    while in adolescence
(C)    at the time of her being adolescent
(D)    as being in adolescence
(E)    as an adolescent

这里A,B中while为什莫不对呢?

31.   Unlike computer skills or other technical skills, there is a disinclination on the part of many people to recognize the degree to which their analytical skills are weak.

(A) Unlike computer skills or other technical skills, there is a disinclination on the part of many people to recognize the degree to which their analytical skills are weak.

(B) Unlike computer skills or other technical skills, which they admit they lack, many people are disinclined to recognize that their analytical skills are weak.

(C) Unlike computer skills or other technical skills, analytical skills bring out a disinclination in many people to recognize that they are weak to a degree.

(D) Many people, willing to admit that they lack computer skills or other technical skills, are disinclined to recognize that their analytical skills are weak.D

(E) Many people have a disinclination to recognize the weakness of their analytical skills while willing to admit their lack of computer skills or other technical skills.

Choice D is best. Choice A illogically compares skills to a disinclination; choice B compares skills to many people. Choice C makes the comparison logical by casting analytical skills as the subject of the sentence, but it is awkward and unidiomatic to say skills bring out a disinclination. Also in C, the referent of they is unclear, and weak to a degree changes the meaning of the original statement. In E, have a disinclination... while willing is grammatically incomplete, and admit their lack should be admit to their lack. By making people the subject of the sentence, D best expresses the intended contrast, which pertains not so much to skills as to people’s willingness to recognize different areas of weakness.

jandj_shanghai 解释得很清楚了,while前的动词是have, while后的willing是形容词,需要的动词是系动词be的are。while后默认many people做主语是没问题的。

She met Andy while working on a production of Carmen.
这里的while working可以被还原成while she was working on..., 如果按照tianwan的解释,这个句子while前后没有使用同一个动词,是不是就成了病句?

og31: while willing to admit...
og69. while being an adolescent...  => "unidiomatic",就是认为"gmatly"不地道,虽然语法上可能对

连being都不喜欢,而且根正苗红的as可完全替换while being,while being还能对吗?Longman的句子在GMAT里是100%对的,因为working不是老鼠(being),as也不能替代while working,而且又简洁。

Mary watched TV while she ate her supper.

While she was listening to the radio, she fell asleep.

We are teachers while (we are) serving as students.

While (he was) yet a youth, he gained many prizes.

He caught a cold while(he was) on vacation.

Some people waste food while others haven't enough.

You like sports, while I prefer music.

While I agree with your reasons, I can't allow it.

While he loves his students, he is very strict with them.

While (he was) respected, he is not liked.

You don't have to worry while we are here.

There will be life while there is water and air.

While there is life, there is hope.

While the book is welcomed by schol-

ars, it will make an immediate appeal to the general readers.

Make hay while the sun shines.

Strike while the iron is hot.

While the roses are yet in bloom, will you come with me to see them?

While I agree with your reasons, I can't allow it.

While he loves his students, he is very strict with them.

While (he was) respected, he is not liked.

In E, the infinitives to decrease and to improve, while parallel, are less idiomatic than the prepositional phrase of decreasing... and improving in modifying the noun aim.

do sth. while doing sth. while being是错误用法

In the last few years, the number of convicted criminals given community service sentences allowing them to remain unconfined while performing specific jobs that benefit the public has risen dramatically.

其次,OG 31中,while willing to,这个while+形容词的省略结构,GMAT认为是语法错误,OG-11解释到,Have a disinclination is wordy (the verb disinclined is preferred) and, when followed by while willing, creates an incomplete construction。

Incorrect: I couldn't pass the driving test even thoughI studied hard.
Correct: I couldn't pass the driving test, even though I studied hard.

是in adolescence 还是during adolescence 2。 I did sth in childhood/while in childhood。

。。期间, 如果改成while she was in adolescence呢? 如果去掉while, 直接用during adolescence呢?

状从的省略:表时间,条件,转折的连词(when/while/if/unless/although/even though/even if)+形容词短语/分词短语(逻辑主语等于句子主语)是正确的

状从的省略:表时间,条件,转折的连词(when/while/if/unless/although/even though/even if)+形容词短语/分词短语(逻辑主语等于句子主语)是正确的

While at college, Delia wrote a novel.

Once in the examination hall, he forgot about all this.

While in London, he studied the English labour movement.
